To warn of solemn fate thy absent friend;

Who once was proud to grasp thy profferd hand,

And in thy all endearing smiles to stand,

That spoke the meaning of thy tender mind,

That all the heav'n born souls to me resignd,

At once to warm & happify our souls,

With mingling joys, of difrent mingling moulds

That in each others joys could raise the shout,

And banish all disguise, or shut it out ~

Can I believe what spirits all unseen,

Reveal from distant worlds to worlds terrene,

And not suspect them demons fraught with guile

That would molest while carelessly I smile,

And sport with pleasures that engross my mind,

With novelyties on earth, that grow refind

When idolized, or hud,d with keenest gripe,

And on my senses press, that naught can wipe
