To revel & to wanton all the brutal o'er,

To sport in frantic play & hrovling games,

Or rambling wide in the debauch of plains,

Pursuing bliss, that scarely moves the sense,

Of savage nature bound to fickle chance,

That leaves the brute just where the brute begun,

Which ease has taught to smile & pain to groan,

Whence they partake the partial good that shines,

From sensual bounty's lap & groveling scenes;

But ne'er participate substantial good,

That feasts the mind, so near allyd to God,

That would with horror view itself a beast,

Nor condescends to see himself defacd,

Below the dignity of man humane,

That dignifies the all endearing name,

Which once could boast its seat but just below
