a gill of tar washed in three or four waters in the pot that you intend Boiling it in a pound of cayan and a pint of water - one ounce of Laudanum_ Boil the water in the tar_ a half an hour scumming it as it rises_ stir in the sugar_ and when boild again scum it_strain it_ and add the Laudanum_then Bottle it_ when cold take 2 teas spoonful at night when going to Bed_ and a Teaspoonful 3 times a day_ if the cough is troublesome.
