We saw a Red-tailed Hawk soaring
overhead, and later heard a Red-
shouldered screaming his wild &
weird Ree-you-Kee-you in the woods.

Farther on a broad-winged Hawk
came sailing round & round over us,
a large black mouse grasped in his
talons. It was a treat to see these
Hawks and know them.

A Cooper’s Hawk has his nest in the
top of a tall pine in Will’s woods and
as we drew near the tree the bird
flew off and away. After dinner we
returned and I actually climbed
up to the nest & I was 50 feet above
the ground to have the experience.
It was pretty hard work and I was
glad when I got there. The nest
was built near the very top of the tree
and was about 1 ½ ft. across and composed
of pine twigs with a few needles of some
of them. One egg lay in the nest
bill. The birds have got to be
destroyed for they will kill every bird
the size of a Robin in a few weeks.
