249 wonderful gage. Bailey gave me a lot of Carices. Was much interested in his Carex collection. Met Prof Dudley who gave me the typical Aster tradescantii named by Dr. Gray.

On Dec. 27, I went to Ashland and inspected Mr. Morong's Herbarium which is stored away. Insects were on the Umbelliferae — I put camphor in every case and trust it will have effect. I dined with Mr. & Miss Wiggins who were very cordial indeed. Miss Wiggins helped me with the plants.

— Mar. 31, 1890 — Cambridge Mass. — The weeks have rolled by since my last entry. School work and herbarium work have occupied me. I have kept up an active correspondence with all my botanical friends, especially with Mr. Bebb & LH Bailey & WW. Bailey. Have named a set of New Brunswick plants for John Britain of Fredericton, N.B. CG Pringle has send me a package of our 150 elegant Man. plants. Lots of plants from J.R Churchill. This P.M. I spoke for an hour and a quarter on Our Native Ferns before the Plant Club. The meeting was at Miss Goodwin's, 10 Follen St. I spoke of the frutification and illustrated on the blackboard. I enjoyed it.
