We have had a most glorious fourth
of July. The sky has been clear and
a cool breeze has been blowing all day.
This A.M. I took a bicycle ride of 11 ½ m.
to Carlisle and back, going by Monument
& River Sts., and returning by Concord St.,
Lowell Road & Lowell St., to Liberty St.
It was hard going most of the way.
After reaching the house, I took my botany
box and rode off to the corner of Walden
& Thoreau Sts. to collect the Bachelor’s
Button which I saw the other day. Dis-
tance in all 4 ¼ m. After dinner, I took
a nap of 1 ¾ hr. Then helped Will get
ready for a display of fireworks this
evening. Before supper road as far
as the corner of Hubbard & Thoreau Sts.
on an errand for Will. Short call on Dan
French. Distance 3 ¼ m. We had a fine
display of fireworks this evening. Will &
I set them off. The neighbors called to
see them, 10.
