Warm day. Thunder storm between 11 &
12 A.M., and also in the evening. This A.M.
I wheeled to Bedford, and took West St.
to a White Cedar Swamp, where I got
some boughs for Miss Prince. Distance in all
9 ½ m. Called and left them at the Old
Manse. Collected some more Pontederia
by the boat house before dinner. In the P.M.
Carrie, Miss Kettell who arrived this A.M. & I
drove to Lexington. Visited the historical
sights and took dinner at the Russell House.
Got home by 8 P.M. Saw Adam’s & John
Hancock’s house, where they were roused
by Paul Revere, Apr. 19, 1775. In the ad-
joining yard is a most superb Amer.
Elm of most perfect symmetry and droop.
The branches touched the ground all round
on a well-kept lawn.

Total 1063 1/2 m.
Glorious, cool, clear day. This A.M. wheeled to
the village, for errands, 3 m. Picnic party to Ball’s
Hill; Margie, Carrie, Miss Simmons, Miss Kettell, Will
& I. I rowed part way. Fine time. M. enjoyed it
much. Saw Cooper’s Hawk with bird in claws.
Saw 2 enormous turtles facing each other
in the water preparing to fight. Got close to them.
Picked a quart of berries of Rubus Canadensis. Home
by 6. After tea, wheeled to the village. Called on Mrs. Hoar,
not in. Saw Mr. & Mrs. Bradford. Called at Mr. T. Quincy Browne.
Saw Tom. Had a nice talk with him. He hopes to be in
Boston next winter.
