The weather since my last entry on April 14 was
cloudy, with no sun, and continual rains till the 26th
when in the afternoon the sun came out and we
have had fine weather since.

Will Brewster has gone to Concord and I am
alone at the Museum. The trees are beginning
to open their buds, but vegetation is very backward.

This morning I spent 2 1/2 hrs. in Waverley
wandering over the Reservation. I saw nothing
in flower as yet. The brook is high and the
Falls were very fine. Two Antiopas were
dancing in the sun and I also saw two
Spring Azure Butterflies hatched from the
chrysalis not long ago —

I saw the following birds: —

Sparrow Hawk, 1 in the meadow near where Lothrop found the nest
Flicker, many* [in full song].
Blue Jay, a pair building a nest in Red Cedar in Upper Reserve
Crows, several
Red wings, many in Lower Reserv{e} about the swamp.
Meadow larks, 4* [in full song].
Grackles, many in Lower Reserve, about the swamp.
Purple Finch, one* [in full song] in Lower Reserve.
Song Sparrow, several* [in full song] Reserve, & near.
Cedar birds, two in red cedar
White–bellied swallow, one, Lower Reserve.
Chickadee, one : Robins, many* [in full song].

I saw two Gulls this PM. — George saw about
25 Gulls on Fresh Pond this morning. He saw
a Robin's nest with 2 eggs on the old place, yes-
terday the 27th, I saw a ♀ [female] sharp-skinned Hawk at
the Reservoir yesterday the 27.
