Mr. John Kerrigan Charlestown State Prison Charlestown, Mass.

Dear Mr. Kerrigan:

I remember our good talk this summer after the Sunday morning service. I hope to visit Charlestown again this autumn. In the meantime I want you to know how much I appreciated the service, the fine attention of the men and their general attitude of cooperation.

I hope things are going well for you and your brother. We had a good deal of damage to repair left by Carol and Edna which was particularly severe on our farm. You know we produce the milk for your institution as well as our own. Things are getting cleared up now.

All good wishes.

Sincerely yours,

Miriam Van Waters, Superintendent

Dear Miss Van Waters,

On Sunday the ninth I received your Wonderful Surprise gift and Very Beautiful card -- Until that moment I had never seen or heard of Johnnie Walker cigarettes, I definitely enjoy a very mild smoke. I tried filter tips -- But they are too mild! So your selection couldn't have been more perfect -- I treasure your thoughtfulness. ~ ~ ~ ~ As I write this the town of Framingham comes to mind -- I recall that in 1940 I worked at the Crown Confectionery as a combination soda-jerk and waiter -- If I remember right, the owner's name was Stella -- she treated me wonderfully -- they make a lot of the candy sold there - downstairs - good too! I had a sweet but discerning tooth - so I oughta know! Perhaps you've tried their bon bon's!

Rev. Kellett drops over to see us almost daily - I admire him very much and who knows I may prove to him yet that his faith in me is not in vain.

This isolation business is not remotely as BAD as it was a very few years ago - We are allowed Newspapers now which I read every evening and we have radio privileges and the blind door are open twenty-four hrs. a day now instead of Vice Versa -- I do a lot of reading - - I enjoy books - the rooms are much larger (at least twice so) here in Cherry Hill than elsewhere in this ah this - Oh; I'll keep it clean and just say prison -- So I'm fairly well off and I think C. h. is a nice clean, warm place to spend the winter---

Will close now - I sincerely hope & pray this finds you in the Best of Health + Spirit- Surely I'll see you when you visit the new place.

Much Love John
