A bright pleasant A.M. Showering P.M.
H. Purdie, W. & I started up in the river
at 11 A.M. in the two boats. Sailed part
of the way. Landed at Martha’s Point
and lunched. Got caught in a very
heavy Thunder shower, but by using the
sails for protection, we managed to
keep pretty dry. Then proceeded up
across Fair Haven Bay and about a
mile beyond. River banks beautiful
and picturesque, lined with Cephalan-
thus, Roses, Juncus, Scirpus validus,
Pontederia, Nuphar advena & Kalmiana,
Nymphaea. In Fair Haven Bay found
Ranunculus multifidus fruiting in great
abundance. Landed at the Bay and
went into the woods towards the Cliffs
to hear the Hermit Thrush, rare about
here. Heard 3 of them. Beautiful note.
Landed at Martha’s Point again, to es-
cape a heavy shower. Beautiful sunset.
Got as far as Mr. Hoar’s Boathouse on our
return, before the rain again overtook us.
Got into the Boathouse and staid there for
one hour in the dark. Then made for home
reaching the boathouse at the Manse
at about 9.30 P.M. Were glad of
a hot supper.
