June 20. Cambridge.

This evening I poisoned all my Colorado plants. Rollie called and bade us goodbye. He goes to-morrow home to Chicago. I have given him some dryers and he will doubtless press me some western plants. ————— June 21 — Cambridge.

Went up to Mother's after dinner. Took up my press and secured the following plants which I have put in press —

Silene inflata.

Robinia pseudoacacia — Trifolium repens — {Trifolium} pratense — Medicago lupulina — Leucanthemum vulgare — Capsella bursa-pastoris. ————— The locust is in full flower and looks beautifully. Bought a quart of Poison. ————— June 24. Cambridge. ——— This P.M. I poisoned a large quantity of plants and those left in my press are nearly dry. The Iris versicolor I dug up for Mrs. Minot last year is in full flower in her garden near the barn — —————

June 25th Cambridge. This A.M. I drove over to Fred Dodge's in Belmont and we went together to Rock Meadow which lies in Belmont & Waltham. We took with us a young fellow named Brown who is familiar with the locality. We tramped about for nearly 3 hours and at times it was very hard going through swampy ground. I took with me my press, tin box & trowel. I secured the following specimens in Rock Meadow.

Myosotis palustris var. laxa Galium trifidum var. tinctorium Peltandra virginica.

Pogonia ophioglossoides — Oenothera pumila — Iris virginica — Veronica scutellata. Cardamine hirsuta — Fide A. Gray Viola lanceolata — Sarracenia purpurea — ————— In Belmont across the road from Rock Meadow I secured the following — Lysimachia thyrsifolia {thyrsiflora}. Caltha palustris — a leaf & fruit (follicle). ————— I got some Chelidonium majus —

in fruit in Belmont on the way home and also some Erigeron strigosum {strigosus} — At Father's, Sparks St., Cambridge, I got Ranunculus acris — Oxalis stricta — ————— I got in Rock Meadow a low plant some 8 or 10 in. high, which I cannot name. Five lobed calyx petals none small inserted on calyx, 5 — Stamens 5 alternate with lobes of calyx Pistil one — body onecelled — one-seeded! Style & stigma one — Comandra umbellata Identified Dec. 3, 1882

All the plants mentioned above I have put to press —

I also got in Belmont some Ligustrum vulgare not fully in flower. I have put in water and if it comes out I shall press it. ————— June 27 — Cambridge.

Will Dodge called this evening and gave me a specimen of Asclepias quadrifolia & Thalictrum purpurascens var. ceriferum from Judge Churchill. I have put them in press. ———

Juen 29 Cambridge.

This A.M. I poisoned all the rest of my plants except three which are in press.

Those in press I shall take up to Mother's as we leave July 1st for Shelburne. This A.M. I dug up the Barbarea vulgaris, which I planted behind the barn at Miss Minot's on last May 27th, and have put 2 specimens to press. It is in fine fruit. I also found behind the barn some Solanum dulcamara which I have put to press. On Concord Ave. I have just got some

Rumex crispus Sisymbrium officinale

which I have put to press. At Mother's this A.M. I got a small specimen of Portulaca oleracea in flower. This in press. I have also put in press the Ligustrum vulgare which I gathered in bud June 25th in Belmont and has now come out in flower.

June 30 — Cambridge.

This P.M. my five boys in Botany who are examined to-morrow came to the house and I talked to them for an hour and a half and showed them fruits, leaves, &c. &c.

This P.M. at Mother's I dug up a good specimen of Rumex obtusifolius which I put in press. I have packed most of my botanical apparatus in a box and expressed it to Shelburne. We leave to-morrow morning — ————— I have gathered 112 species of plants this spring to date.

July 2 — Arrived here last evening after a cool day in the cars. The river is so high that we were obliged to go round by Lead Mine Bridge in a pouring rain. This A.M. I took a stroll between the showeres and secured the following specimens — On the wooded knoll between Gus Philbrook's where we are staying and the Androscoggin River — Viburnum acerifolium — Corylus rostrata — Diervilla trifida — Cornus canadensis — Vaccinium vitis-idaea —
