Vineyard Haven Nov 16 1895

My dear cousin Eliza The paper sent to Mother containing the announcement of your dear Mothers departure to her other home received and the obituary notice which is a fitting tribute to one of her lovely character and Christian graces has been read aloud to Mother who never thinks she has heard it before and discovers something new each time I read it to admire and talk about. At first she was quite overcome and it was quite pathetic to hear her repeat "I am the only one left I am all alone" As the years go by her memory fails more than her health yet the weight of her 89 years makes her way

seem short to when she may put on immortality and join her beloved ones who have gone before. You have my heartfelt sympathy in this loss you must feel so keenly I am not a stranger to the [care?] you have had. no one could understand your Mother like yourself or minister to her comfort with such satisfaction to you both. I am often reminded of the passage which contains such devotion. "Whither thou goest I will go thy home shall be my home &c" and feel that the sacred service of holding the feeble hand of these aged ones as they walk where they see the dawn of the heavenly day is not a task to shrink from but a privilige to the faithful who can

but rest under the special benediction of Him who watches over us all I am at my [A?] home at [?] Chop came over from [Eastville?] the 29 of Oct and usually remain here till the middle of April it is very pleasant and quiet here and I enjoy the change from my busy summers at the Bellevue across the [Tracks?]. I hope some day you will visit me I am sure I should enjoy it and may be you would; Kindly remember me with love and sympathy to your brothers and beleive me Affectionately Your cousin Margaret A Claghorn
