Thursday Dec 12th 95

Dear Miss Eliza -

I would have written to you before to let you know of our sympathy. but I have been in a good deal of trouble myself. one of my eys was affected and I went to Atlanta to consult Dr Calhoun had to have an operation performed and while in bed with my eyes bandaged took broken bone fever and was in bed for three weeks. I could not use my eyes for some time and this is the first letter I have written with the aid

of glasses since the operation. we felt so much for you when we read the account of your Mother's sickness and death. it certainly was a beautiful tribute to her memory, and the work she had delighted to do for her Master. We have spoken of you both so often, and missed you as friends, and send our sincere sympathy to you in your loneliness. May He who givest light and strength to the stars to run their appointed journey, give thee His light and His strength to guide and aid thee in the trials and duties of every day.
