From Sgt. J.H. Spears Co "B" 1st Bn 27th Marines c/o Fleet Postmaster San Francisco Sept 3, 1944

Dear Eva

Thought I would drop you another letter today, I have only received one letter from you since I have left the states. Write all your letters air mail and I will receive them in half the time it takes regular mail to get here. You will get the first installment of my allotment next month. I hope the epidemic of infantile paralasis has passed. I guess by the next time I see Judy she will have forgotten me again. Judging by the news I think the war in Europe will be over pretty soon. I will be glad when its over here but I think it will be quite sometime yet. When I get out of this outfit I am going to plant me an orchard and sit down and watch it grow. There isn't much to write about as I can't tell you where we are. I just got through doing my weekly washing, I always dread it. As dusty as this place is it doesn't take long for things to get dirty. The chow we get is pretty bad so once in awhile I get up enough energy to hike into the small town near here and buy a meal. The other day I was so hungry I ate two steaks, a double order of fried potatoes, and four egg's. That's going to be one of the postwar problem's keeping ex-service mens appetite filled. Well sis I am running out of space so I will have to close. Write soon

Love Jewell
