Dear Eva,

I have received several letters from you since I have last written, I get your letters pretty regularly and look forward to getting them. I haven't received your fruit cake that you sent as yet as it takes a month or more for a package to reach us. I am still in good health and hope I stay that way. We have been working fairly hard so that I don't have too much time to write or sometimes I am just too tired. I don't know whether I will be able to send any Xmas presents this year or not, I don't have the money to buy anything here that would be worth sending and very seldom we get a chance to go to the native town.

I hope you and the rest didn't go to any trouble about a Xmas presents for me as there isn't anything that I am really need. My allotment took effect this month so you should get the the last of this month or the first of November it will be for the month of October. There is one thing I would enjoy that you can pay for with my money, take out a subscribtion to the Enterprise and have it mailed to me, you

can have it mailed to the same address that you mail my letters. My address has been changed to read twenty seventh regiment, fifth marine division, instead of twenty seventh marines. While I think of it, if you should see any newspaper articles later on mentioning the fifth division or twenty seventh regiment in action cut them out an save them with the rest of my clippings. I intend to make a scrapbook of them when I get back.

You told me in your last letter that Velma received my letter, tell her that I haven't received one from her yet, but expect to. With all the mountain climbing we have been doing I don't think I will have a suitable stomach to play Santa Clause to Judy when I get, anyway I hope that we don't stay over here that long. I imagine that by the time I get back that Judy will have changed quite a bit. You can tell Harry that he had better get plenty of practise hunting because when I get back he will have to be good to keep up with me. Also let me know when he catches a fish, everytime I get a letter from you he has gone fishing but I haven't heard of him

catching anything yet.

Well Eva I have just about run out things to write about, right now time passes without much to write about, besides the censorship regulations keeps me from writing about some of the things I would like to write about. Just a little bit more than a month I will attain the age of twenty five the fifth birthday in the Marines, at times it seems longer and at times it seems shorter. I hope by the time next Dec the ninth rolls around that I won't be this far from Carolina. Well Eva I guess this will have to be all for this time, give my best to everyone.

Love Jewell
