To You Who Mourn a Hero

In presenting this little volume, "How Sleep The Brave," the Veterans of Foreign Wars express the sincere wish that within its pages you may find comfort, that through its pictures you may gain a glimpse of the world your loved one died to save, and that from its sentiment you may glean the spark which will fill you with a desire to dedicate the remainder of your lives toward the preservation of a permanent peace.

The High Point Post of the V.F.W. stands ready to be of any possible assistance to you in adjusting whatever difficulties you may have relative to pensions, claims or any other problem which may confront you in connection with your loved one who served his country so ably in her darkest hour. We have in our membership a special committee, amply qualified to render this type of service to you - a group whose ability is exceeded only by its willingness. Naturally, such service is administered without cost to you.

Speaking for the entire membership, let me convey to you who have lost, the very devout sympathy of every man in the local organization. We all realize the emptiness of mere words to you whose sacrifice has been so great. But we do want you to know that we deeply appreciate the bravery of those who have died and the courage of those who are left, a combination which shall stand forever as an honor to our country and as a lasting memory to the glory of God.

Most sincerely yours,
HIGH POINT POST NO. 619
