out of my way. Reached Mt Vernon about an hour ahead of the Bowens. Fine expensive connecting rooms, air conditioned & new TVs that have remote control! Nothing interesting on, tho. Dinner at H. J. across the street & back to rooms. Wrote cards in the court outside. To visit the Burkharts, lovely home on Lake Worth north of town. Back to fill out forms & bed. Prue still thin & half nauseated most of the time.

carried six of us to the Club. Very imaginative building pink stucco. Each room has its own porch overlooking pool. No beach here. Launch takes us to Stocking Island but with no attention to tides. Unpacked & went down to tea to be greeted by stony stares. Had tea on terrace by pool. Drinks in bar with newcomers & dinner at 7:30. Mr. Bissart(?) ate with us & he & Perre stayed to talk. P & I up for scrabble. She took sleep pill. I do hope this change will help her. Had hot water jug sent to room for early coffee, faucet water not for drinking.

Tues 4/7 Awake early & coffee likewise on terrace. Prue had tea, miserable and not wanting to talk about her condition or what to do. We had breakfast sent & ate on porch.

Wind quite high & constant. Launch operator sick, so no ride to Stocking Island & beach. Prue & Perre spent all morning in reclining chairs on terrace. Prue got some sun on legs. I walked along the road and found some shells in the rocks. Drinks before. Buffet lunch very good. Slept in afternoon, then just before sunset, we walked the other way & to a crescent shaped beach. Perre found a Partridge Tun, almost perfect. Sou Comf on our porch & dinner at 7:30. We are always first, most of the others eating around nine or so. Prue & I finished Scrabble game we had begun in aft.

Wed 4/8 Had coffee for me & hot water for Bs brt night before in thermos jugs. At 9:30 went in launch. Club house on hill looking both ways, terraced & landscaped.

Walked to right on beach towards rocks. Found some tinies, but not many fresh shells at this time. Back in time for rest before lunch. Dr. Cutter very helpful about this & that. Napped in aft, then Prue & I walked up toward beach. Dr. C. there & we found large chitons there in rocks. To room soon after dinner & took sleep pill & raudixin.

Thurs 4/9 Slept till 7! Coffee on porch & after br, took launch again. Two women who had come on freighter evening before, one a Scottish doctor & a school teacher from London on a 3 yr contract in Nassau, very talkative. Dr. told Prue to take sugar in the night when wakeful. A 2 hr nap, then another long walk
