Dear friends:–

I met your brother this morning on the Illinois Central train and meeting him reminded me of the old times in Kenwood Church, Mr. & Mrs. Fisher and their family seated over in the N.W. cor. on the first floor. How dear to our hearts are not only the scenes of our childhood but also our memories.

I am in my seventy-first year. We have five children and seven grandchildren. I think the "Good Night Chapter of Arthur Bonnicastle, which I enclose, illustrates to some extent my thoughts as to our children and grandchildren, and the little story about it I think will interest you.

I was in Fond du Lack, Wis., over 50 years ago trying to sell dry goods without success; got on board a caboose, mixed train, freight and passenger, a dark dreary afternoon, read the Good Night Chapter of Arthur Bonnicastle which braced me up, went into Oshkosh and sold five bills of goods. Afterwards I met Mr. Holland when he lectured in Plymouth Church in Chicago and told him how much that Good Night Chapter had helped me. The book, Arthur Bonnicastle is supposed to be a history, to some extent, of Holland's life.

I also send some other literature which may be of interest and service to you. I have a little sermon:

"The greatest joy in the world is the joy of service. The greatest power in the world is the power of love. The greatest rule in the world is the Golden Rule. The greatest war in the world is the war with ourselves." "But thanks to be unto God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

My wife, one of my daughters, Louise, and myself go to Kenwood Church. Three of my children, Stanley my son, two daughters, Elizabeth and Dorothy, live in Hubbard Woods, 17

I wish there were more families in the world like the Fisher family.

With kindest regards, I beg to remain,

Yours very truly Arthur Burage Farwell
