High Point, N.C. Tues-Feb. 27th

My Dearest Pete: Well, it's too late to get this off by the post-man this morning as I hear his whistle now, so I will just take my time. Velma didn't feel like working yesterday, so she came over here and stayed awhile. Henry will celebrate his first year of wedded life with Lib Sunday, they were married on 4th of March. It's beginning to look like Spring here and I sure will be glad when we don't have to have fires any more for awhile anyway. I have to look after the furnace and boy do I hate to take out ashes. Seems I get most of them in my hair. Harry went fishing this past Sunday. He and Smith caught quite a few cat-fish. He gave them away as he didn't want to clean them and I can't skin cat-fish. Well, the news this morning sounded much (over)

2 better, they seem to think the worst of the the fighting will be over in Iwo Jima within a few days and I sure hope they are right. I know you told me not to worry but I can't help being worried. All I can do is pray and wait for a letter from you. I'm looking forward when we can all be to-gether again. Henry said the first Xmas you were back home, he was throwing a party for all of us at the King Cotton in Greensboro. Faison and Mary spent a few days with us and they sure have two healthy children. James eats so much they have to ration his food to him. He will eat any thing they give him and the baby seems to be the same way. I have had so much trouble getting Judy to eat and drink her milk, I think it must be wonderful to have to take food away from them. Judy got off to a bad start though by

3 taking whooping cough when she was only four weeks old and she has never entirely gotten over it. She really has enough energy for two, though. Pete, you remember Claiborne Nelson? He is reported on his way home. He hasn't been in the U.S. for over 30 months. His Mother & Father are very excited and can hardly wait for his arrival. Well, dear, I've run out of news - be good and take care of yourself, we all love you very much and think of you constantly. I always remember you in my prayers. Hope to hear from you soon.
