DISTRICT CHAPLAIN'S OFFICE NAVY YARD, S. C.

20 April 1945

Mrs. H. L. Moorefield 706 Forrest Avenue High Point, N. C.

Dear Mrs. Moorefield:

Your letter of April 18 has just been received. I am sorry I cannot give you the information you desire. I know how anxious you must be to know all the details, but I fear these will be denied you for a while at least, owing to the fact that the casualty was so far away and under such extreme circumstances. The Marine Corps finds it impossible to do more than simply make the announcement.

If, after a reasonable time, more information is not forthcoming, I suggest you write to the Paymaster General, General Accounting Office, Claims Division, Navy Department, Washington, 25, D. C., or to the Commandant of the Marine Corps, Washington, D. C., and I am sure your request will receive sympathetic consideration.

Your letter is one of many we received for similar information, but the answers are not available here. I hope you may be able to receive the information you desire, and in due time your anxious hearts will be more fully satisfied.

We recommend you to our Heavenly Father who will answer all our needs.

Sincerely yours, [signature] THOMAS B. THOMPSON CAPTAIN, CHC, USN DISTRICT CHAPLAIN
