Robert Townsend Hooe and Daniel Jenifer ran a store in Alexandria, Virginia, from 1773-1778. As a journal (or day book), this volume represents the summary of each day's transactions at the store, both purchases and payments, often with more detail than would be found in the official ledger. This work contains folios 231-460.

Accounts in this journal represent house (overhead) accounts, fellow merchants, ships, and men and women living in Alexandria and the surrounding area, as well as many transaction on behalf of the town's enslaved residents. In the first 60 pages, over 115 account holders have been identified and over 125 individuals purchasing on others' accounts (including 33 women and 38 enslaved individuals). While the ledger's location is unknown, it will be possible to recreate it with the completion of these transcriptions.

The original manuscript may be found within the collections of the various Hooe & Company ledgers at the New York Public Library.
