Loose Papers
And all its sweets to thee disclose
In every wreath of thine.
The path of happiness bedecked with flowers
And garlanded with beds, be thine
And joy speed on the happy hours
Unto the end of time
May Spring her choicest blossoms ever bring thee
Sweet as the ones thou hast sent me.
I'll cherish thy flower when its beauty is gone
I'll press and preserve it for thy sake alone.
Sabbath eve March 19th/48
To Mary Clark A wish
[left column]
All the joy the world can give,
Dear Mary, I would wish for thee
And while on earth you live
May you happy, very happy be.
A friend, the best of earthly treasures
The greatest boon the world bestows,
Be thine to double all thy blossoms
And those with thee thy woes.
Thy house, a cottage low, and sweet
With the breath of many flowers
Where smiling Happiness & plenty meet
And Love speed on the blissful hours
Hence be thy empire, thou the queen
Shalt have a fiery reign of bliss
While naught around is seen
But sights of Happiness
Thy sceptre love—and royal favor shows
To all beneath thy sway
When thy own last hour shall come
Death shall usher in thy happiest day.
[right column]
Mary, accept the wish of your
humble friend, & in your happiest
moments think not of her. Then
all should be joy and gladness.
But if at the twilight hour a
sweet pensive feeling comes over
you—and a tear, though not
of sorrow fills your eye, then
forget her not, for that is the
hour for sympathy. Or if at
eventide, you turn your eye
above among those "Lambs of
Heaven" and see her favorite
star shining on its heavenly
way, let it remind you of her,
but above all, let it speak
of that bright world above
of the souls hours in the
Spirit land.
