1. There is a method in the subject and a method in the child.

2. Begin with the study of the child for this will determine the arrangement of the subject.

3. The great purpose is to establish a manifold and permanent interest in the child for the world.

4. The degree of interest is the measure of the value which the world has for the self.

5. The world as here used includes the child's nature, entire, and all that is objective to him in the universe.

(For further development of this topic, See Dr. Rosenkranz under "Forms of Education")

Number Work.

Number is that which answers the question, how many?

Every number is one or is made of ones.

One is a standard of comparison— as measures.

All numbers except one expresses relation.

Number, then, is the measure of the relation of any magnitude to its standard. There are two kinds of ones, integral and fractional.

Integral ones refer to smaller units as a standard, fractional refer to larger ones as a standard.

The idea of relativity is much more accented in fractional than in integral numbers.

In work the first thing to teach the child is a body of facts & how to use them.
