Dear Gertie:—

Now at 9 o'clock
I am up for my breakfast
and the maid said when I came
down stairs, "Up already?"

It seems that the majority of
English people in the towns
and cities do not settle down
until midnight and breakfast
does not begin until 8 o'clock.

I wrote you last from Headwater
while Aunt Margaret Holmes
was getting breakfast.
Soon afterward I left, walking ambling
one mile to Ambleside, and
after investing in a good supply
of postal cards—and
there are none more attractive
to me than those of the Lake
