About

Lake County Naturalization Records
Naturalization records are an important genealogical tool that can help place a family in Indiana at a certain time in history. The Indiana State Archives holds the naturalization records for 81 of Indiana's 92 counties. Many of them have already been indexed by volunteers and can be searched at the Indiana Digital Archives. Lake County naturalization records are unique in the state in that they are divided among four courts depending on when and where the records were generated: Crown Point, Hammond, Gary and East Chicago. This has resulted in three different indices being used for the location of the original records, and frequent confusion over which “Volume 3” a particular record or citation might refer to. This project will combine the different paper indexes into one comprehensive digital index.
