Nano Nagle writing to Miss Fitzsimons

ReadAboutContentsHelp
Letter from Nano Nagle to Miss [Eleanor] Fitzsimons in which she speculates about her investments in Paris and expresses her disappointment at the low interest paid. Nagle complains that Mr. Waters, banker, would not tell her anything about the East India Company. She appears fretful and vexed; fretful that the second effort at making an Ursuline foundation in Cork would fail again, and vexed that the interest paid by the East India Company had fallen to one half of its former value. Nagle asserts that it was the general opinion that few foreigners would ever again put their money in the French funds. She requests Miss Fitzsimons to present her compliments to her former mistress, communicates her affection for her correspondent, and mentions the young ladies and Miss Smith.

have done a great dall of good with and wou’d really scruple a way if I had any notion this foundation, was only to last during I hope you don’t make yr self oneasy [?] [points?] any more: I must beg the favour of you to inquire whether it’s the king that pays the interest on the actions in the East India Company, as all most all the funds in that kingdome are reduc’d wan half, and I am inform’d those I imbark’d are at present look’d on as the best which, thought last summer the worst had a mind to sell out of them to buy in stock where, which I wou’d have being a considerable loser Mr Waters is not fond of writing so he wou’d not inform me any thing about the E-t I-a Company, it’s thought few foreigners will ever put there money in the french funds again. I am very well plais’d that I have not more tho’ I was vex’t at disappointment I met with which prevent’d my putting more out for this foundation. I imagin’d it wd be so secure for them by a letter I saw from Mrs Coppenger I was to find she was recover’d and as for Mr Moylan I dare say [it?] seem so desirous his sister shou’d come over nothing that she can do will prevail on him to consent to her remaining there. I beg youlle present my compliments to your former mistress and my best wishes and believe me to be Dr Miss your most afftn friend Nano Nagle send the young ladies and tell miss smith I hope to have a happy sight of her wan of those days.
