I left home for the Camp at Williamsport Oct 23 1862 took the cars at Upton at 1 oclock with a heavy heart--arrived in Baltimore and put up at the mansion house in Fayett Street, arrived at the Calvert Station in time to take the 700 trane for Harrisburgh but on acct of having no pass for my hollend bag I could not get off until got out went to the provost Mess hall got a pass for my bag took the cars for Harrisburg and arrived there at 9 oclk at night went to 3 hotels before I could get lodgings staid at a fashionable house but had to sleep in the 5th story took cars for Hagerston and arrive at one oclok hired a hack and arrive in camp 1/2 past 4 oclck

came into Camp at Wmport Oct 25th 1862 sleep in the farm House on Saturday night one death in camp today 26 Sunday very wet and cold had no religious service in the daytime exorted a little at night in a tent one was converted sleep in farm house

27 Monday Penni and I fixed up our tent busey all day tired at night went to lie in tent but so cold could not sleep much

28 Tuesday spent the day running about forming acquaintances in camp sleep well in the tent to night

29 Wenesday spent the time in reading talking and preying health good so far thank god

Thus 30 had a conversation with the man who was converted on last sunday night the lord blessed the work of exortation and a nother man counted the lord have the power

Friday 31 the reg mustard in for pay today when the pay will come cant tel

Nov 1 Saterday ascertained the number of professing christians in Reg there are Presbetarians Ger Reform Lutherian un Breathern unitarian new Jerusalem uim Brinarian (?) E Pis.Methodist ( ) tM (?) Methodist quakers Episcopalian Catholic in all 96 their may be others whos name I have not got yet

trouble with head ach all day visited the hospitul with Doct Simper spent some time with Co. D in reading scripture

Sabeth Nov 2nd had a bible reading with the drummer boys 12 present exorted them after the reading of the scripture one boy 13 years old did not know his letters another could not read they promise to meet me in my tent to be taught to read, was disappointed no preaching to the Reg in consequence of an order to from head quarters for 5 co of the Reg to proceed at once to support Alexandria battery the place occupied by the 4th Reg--who received orders to march to day to Baltimore to enforce the draft -- this day and night exeedingly warm an pleasent -- the chaplain from the 7 Reg Rev Mr Heath spent the evening and took tea with me he is a very pleasent gentlemany man

monday 3 wrote to Bro Lyls and received a letter from home the first since I left visited the Rev Mr Heath at his boarding house in Williamsport went to the guard house saw the six Rebels taken by Russells Cavalry visited the other wing of the Reg had two of the drummer boys in my tent at night learning them to Read sent a letter home by Bro Clark Gibson wrote to John a christie of wilmington Del

Tuesday 4th wrote to Bro Lane (Dane) visited the left wing of the Reg made arangement for holding prayr meeting on thursday night in our camp visited Andru Smith Think he will die soon am in good health except some cold in my head read the Scriptur no test for news papers except the Methodist or advocate
