tuesday 11 wrote to my daughter May Received a letter from J.S. Crock (?) visited the hospital in the afternoon at Williamsport the man who received a wound in his head Still living. the day is very warm and pleasent our camp was all excitement to night in consequence of an order from head quarters, calling out our Reg. to meet the rebels at Williamsport and Hagarstown 1st Reg. Marched to Hagarstown thou of our company was in williamsport the candals in our tents were all put out, and also the camp fires so that the camp ground was terible dark I retired to my bed as calm as a summer eve not knowing what hour I would be aroused by the booming of canon but all was quiet thank god

Wensday 12 morning warm and cloudy same at night receive a letter from home wrote to Mr Thos Smith Need six hundrid testaments from the Bible house in Baltimore distributed 200 to the right wing this afternoon saw two men playing cards with two boys reproved them for doing so read the 1 timothy and second chapter and retired cold no better

Thursday 13 morning warm and clear 1/4 past 7 oclock the report of a gun in one of the tents and the screaming of a man in distress brought me to the tent and low a man was shot through the head he lived but a few minutes. Shot by one of his own company by accident the man

who done the deed was almost frantic. The man shot never spok the captain told me he was the best man he had a member of our church and belonged to Co H visited the Hospitals in Williamsport and distributed some testaments, prayed with the man who received the wound in the head he is very low and some what distaught in mind visited Andrew Smith he is some better the young man killed this morning was removed to his home this evening he was conducted by four privates and a corporal with their caps on the lid of the coffin I led in the procession from the hous to the haXXr I was visited this evening by two breathern from the left wing by the name of Brown and Angel They are pious men

Friday 11th morning warm and pleasant took mediscine this morning for my cold wrote to H.S. Crawford. Visited the left whing of the Reg and distributed testaments to the men no man refused to take a testament visited the Hospital in Williamsport visited Andrew Smith and prayed with him Capt Christie with me read the 10 chapt of luk and retired to bed

Saterday 15th morning clear and warm nothing special to day visit the Hospitals in Williamsport distributed some testaments in the hospitals and in camp in my tent all the evening preparing for the sabeth two men visit me from the left wing hope with the blessing of god to have a good time tomorrow read the Scripture and prepared for bed

Sunday 16th Morning cloudy and cold bible class of drummer boys meet at my tent at 10 clock had a pleasant time with them lectured them on the evil of profanity and ill treating animals at 2 oclock meet for preaching preached from 18 of luke and 18 verse had a pleasant time but a poor prospect of doing much good in that way the soldiers had to leave after they were dismissed and prepare for inspection at night went over to the left wing and held prayr meeting had a good time made arangements for holding class meetings appointed next thursday nigh to meet in the right wing of the Reg returned to my tent tired in body have tried to sow the good sead may it take root and bring forth good fruit read the Scriptures and retired to bed cold in my head no better
