Elder James Alfred Olsen

OverviewVersions

Description

I believe the various mentions in the journal of an Elder Olsen (Olesson, Olsson, etc) Are to James Alfred Olsen. His Family Search ID is KWVG-M28. We find William celebrating with others Elder Olsen's birthday on August 6, 1901. The Family Search record places his birthday on July 30, a reasonable timeframe to celebrate a birthday. William references Elder Olsen by A. M. Oleson. It is possible that he is referencing multiple Elder Olsens but I can find no other Olsens in the mission that fit the timeframe at this point. Elder Olsen would have been 19 at the time of his call.

Given that William is a phonetic speller I wonder about the accent that Elder Olsen may have had. Did the way he pronounce his own name cause the spelling issues in William's journal?
