Dear Ms. Smith,

As you know, the National Black Political Convention is planned for Garry Indiana on the weekend of March 10-12. I must attend.

Therefore, I am regretfully withdrawing my commitment through my lecture for a speech at North Caroline Central on Sunday March 12. I am sorry for any inconvenience my withdrawal may cause you; I hope you will be able to ask me again at a later date.

The enclosed clipping concerning the Convention may help explain the situation.

Sincerely,

Julian Bond
