Dear Mr. Gibeling,

To follow up our Tuesday evening conversation, let me detail a few more things about myself and my reasons for running.

I have worked in other political campaigns, both here - my brother's several successful campaigns for the Georgia House, the C. B. King campaign for Governor in 1970 - and in New York, including reform candidate Paul O'Dwyer's failing attempt to be elected to the U. S. Senate in 1968 and the successful Bela Abzug congressional campaign in 1970. I worked with SNCC in 1964 and 1965, and as you may know the organization was deeply involved in political organizing, primarily in the Black Belt counties of Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Arkansas. I traveled in these states during those years as a SNCC organizer and voter registration worker, and helped organize the 1964 challenge delegation of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party.

That challenge was unsuccessful in 1964 but succeeded in 1968, and laid the groundwork for the successful challenge to Lester Maddox's handpicked delegate that my brother helped mount in Chicago 8in 1968.

I am young, and a student, and Black. I have a background of political activism in Atlanta, across the South, and in New York. I think youths, Black people and students need a voice with the 1972 convention when the Democratic opponent to Richard Nixon will be chosen.

I am pledged to no candidate, but to the general proposition that war must end and poverty must be eradicated. I want to work at the Democratic Convention in Miami this summer to see that voters in November have a choice between Richard Nixon and a cadidate who will make those generalities for all Americans.
