in every respect worthy of a parents' love: He was
highly gifted - of the purest minds - a most
affectionate & obedient child. I don't now remember
of his ever giving me the slightest cause of displeasure
after completing his education at the University
he read law at home & obtained a Law license
but had not commenced the practice, when he was
attacked with the fatal disease, which termin
ated his precious life in a few months. If
he had lived, he would not have failed to succeed
he had a fine graceful delivery & would soon
have ranked high as a speaker. He was remark
able for his kind & benevolent feelings, graceful &
easy manner, which won for him "golden opinions"
from people of all ages, sexes & conditions, he was
particularly admired by the fair sex, with whom
he was a universal favorite.

My wife, son & daughter returned to Winchester
Ten. soon after Algernon's death. My dear wife's
health was greatly impaired by the trip, from
which she never recovered.

I made a good start at the Winchester bar
and in a very few months, got an equal share
of the business_ Made money _ & our prospects
every way were flattering, until by the rapid &
declining health of my dear wife, I was in a
great measure prevented from attending to bu
siness. I had left Kenty, a good deal in debt
and they preyed heavily upon me. Shortly after
this return of the family from Ky. my son Thos. P
made the acquaintance of Miss Caroline P.
Anderson, second daughter of Col Wm. P. Anderson
of Franklin County, & I imagine at their first
acquaintance, they were naturally pleased with
