agony on on the night of the day of December
1827 & was interred in the family burying
ground at Colo. Andersons, from which
she was afterwards removed (Vide post)
I feel myself wholly incapabe of doing justice
to the memory of this admirable woman
the wife of my youth. In person, she was
small & very delicate - her weight at no time
of her life exceeded 100 lbs. generally she
weighed about 95 lbs.; she was however generally
very healthy. In mind, she was a Giantess.
Her early education, like my own, was limited
but she was fond of reading, & I made it a rule
when at home, to read every thing I did read
in her hearing. A a daughter, wife, mother
mistress, friend, brother, neighbor, she was
blameless. As housekeeper, &c. she had no
equal. Order and neatness every where prevailed.
To cap the climax of her character
she was a devout Christian - a member
of the Baptist church. She was baptised in
Cumberland River, by the Revd. Thomas Chilton
about the year 1810 or 11. Her sister Nancy
Gholson, attended her for several months
in her last illness. And I have feel it to be
my duty to notice, the kind attention paid to
her, also in her last illness by two worthy matrons
of Winchester, Mrs. Martin & Mrs Kenningham
who was with her, every other night, at least
for months.
Thomas P. was a candidate before the Legislature
of Ten. at their session in the fall of this year
for the office of Solicitor, or Attorney General in
our circuit. There were several other candidates
& he was beaten One vote, by E. J. Freerson Esq.
