August 25, 1922 - Friday

The best rain yet last night, several leaks being
discovered this a.m. Mrs. E. found a big black scor-
pion [scorpion]on the couch in the drawing room this aft.
when she went in for her nap; saved alive on a
white plate under a glass fingerbowl for us to see &
then had Jem. kill later. Observed in Infant & 1st
S. rooms again today; & went back about time for
school to close to healp Ma Nyine make out her pro-
gram [program] as she seemed at a loss how to go about it; this
is her first year teaching. Washed a pr. of brown, also
white stockings this a.m., & got them darned this aft.
Finished "Old Paths Thru' New P." & told the girls we would
have a written lesson on it on Mon; think some of them
were rather dismayed. The Burbank book reappeared
today; of course am glad it is back, but would like to
know who has had it - but don't suppose I'll ever find
out. Several of the day pupils from 9th & 10th Ss. have
failed to return their books, but have promised to do so
Mon; hope they will, as I'd like to get all the left overs
cleared up at once.

August 26, 1922 - Saturday

Slept late this a.m & so didn't get as much done before
break. as I had expected. Worked hard all day, however,
and have the satisfaction of clearing off a no. of odd
jobs. I've planned to go to town several Sats. but alwasy too
busy to get to it; so I'm still without glue and several other
things I'd like to have. Found a brown scorpion in my bath-r
in the middle of the night which I dispatched with the
walking cane I keep by the door. Didn't go to Woman's Meet-
ing [Meeting]. Began on the piece to be read before the Womans'
Union of Pittsburgh late this aft; wrote on it all eve
till I got so sleepy I had to quit. Will try to finish in
time tomorrow to get off on this wk's mail - but it
must go tomorrow to catch the boat.
