later & corrected a few more papers, so now
I'm half through. Mrs. C. is to arrive Th., Miss P.
W. or Th. & the anytime the last of the mo. Had to fix my bed tonight.

September 26, 1922 – Tuesday
Struck my mouth especially the lower lip on the top
of the chair at my desk as I was diving into bed last
night; don't know when I ever had anything to hurt
me so badly. Got up & turned the light on to see the
extent of the damage done; felt like a tooth was
about out also, but my masked lip saved my ivories.
Couldn't help crying for quite awhile. Mrs. E. caught the
rat that has been in her room last night; but its
mate is there, so she'll have to set the trap again tonight.
Got a note from Mr. Fischer of the M.P. this eve, & also an
invitation to the entertainment of the B. Amer. Ass. by
the Seagraves on the 16th, Mrs. E. letting me know when
she brought it that she couldn't stay for it, as she has
too much to do here, so she says – but I'm going; she
also paused to read me extracts from a letter from
Miss Craft – especially about Mrs. Brown; I believe the poor
woman must be crazy. Prayer meeting here this eve,
so read from the latter part of the V & first of the VI
ch. "taking my text" from the "fruit of the spirit". Mr.
G. did not return till this aft; while Mrs. N., who also
arrived today, proved to be the large Indian woman
whom I'd already met in Rangoon. Had VI S. orals
all day where I was not teaching, but didn't quite
get thru – it is next to the largest class, I believe,
over 30. We ate dinner in the pantry & served ice-
cream [ice-cream] & cake later. I got another dig about the cur-
tains [curtains] last night; the 1st thing I'm going to do when-
ever [whenever] again be my sad fate to have to borrow any-
thing [anything] from her. Went over the exam. questions with

my Eng. class this a.m. Bible class on "Jesus and
Friendship." Sent for Ma M.Y. to come fix my bed this eve
as it was again unmade.

September 27, 1922 – Wednesday
Finished up the II S. & began on the I; as this was p.m.
aft. I had several left over after B. cl; after saying she'd
have them come back tomorrow; altho' I'd offerred to
take them later, she then announced that I would do just
that, and also that the I, II, & III Ss. need not come to-
morrow [tomorrow] morning. Had Pu Pu stand & be described by
my Eng. class this a.m. after late "tea" read the Gazette.
Mai came to me this aft. & said that she had lost the
marks I gave her for the IV S. so that will all be to do
over. Mrs. E. caught the 2nd rat last night, tho S. had
looked every thing before she thought to set her trap
so she had to bait it with ivory soap – which they
eat in preference to any other kind of cleansing
cakes! A rat ran in the house however just as
the people were leaving last eve. Most of the girls
brought back their books today, tho I did not get
around to the X S., and some as usual, had lost or
forgotten theirs. Now I'm going to stop & have a
bath, finishing later. A copy of the 1st prize essay,
won by a Morton Lane girl, & the 2nd, awarded to a
Cushing High School boy, arrived yes., but I haven't
seen them yet. Miss Wisebaum, the sewing inspector came
soon after ten this a.m., & then stayed for break. at
Mrs. E's invitation; she brought several bits of news.
Finished correcting my exam papers this eve, but got so
sleepy will wait till morning to count up. Need soap,
so will have to see if Ma Myiut is going to bazaar tomor-
row [tomorrow] & can buy me some. Finished the ch. on Friendship
the next one is on "Marriage", so they all ought to be
interested in that. Must tell May to return my book of
songs, & see if Ma Nyein is going to get me a peacock feather.
