To me it would be cheaper, in dollars and cents, to
screen the houses, in spite of the high initial cost
and constant up keep, than to permit such a
waste of time, suffering, and deterioration in the
health of the personnel by letting them go un-
screened. [unscreened] Some of the mis. have screened one
room or a corner of a verandah, in order to be
able to enjoy a little peace and comfort when
at home. S. brought me some breakfast, and later
dinner; I didn't want any "tea" (food, I never drink
the beverage- except on special occasions when I
cannot well refuse; the British make it too strong
to suit me; the Americans are not so addicted
to its use.) Since ice cannot ordinarily be procured
outside of the metropolis and chief port- Rangoon-
it is always served hot; the Americans are the
only ones who ever serve it iced. Recently we've
been able to get ice here in Mandalay but it is
very expensive, so we do not indulge often. The
others report a delicious dinner, fine fellowship,
and altogether a very successful day yesterday,
my second Thanksgiving in Burma, first in M.
