Your favor of the 25th
Inst. was received this Evg. I had been
apprised by a friend in Frankfurt
of the proceedings of young Winchester
The depositions which he is said
to have obtained accuse me of
having intrigued to obtain the
command of the Army from him
& of Having with held prouisions
to produce a mutiny amongst
his troops. I can scarcely think
that Genl. Winchester can [be ?]
any agency in this nefarious
project Where as in rectification
much being thrown upon its [au-
-thors.] The intrigue must [bear]
referrence to the recommendation
which you procured at St Marys
I have taken no steps to guard against
this attack [nor ?] to punish
the Authors I have written to Col.
[Hardie?] & desired him him to find
out whether any thing has been
said that is actionable & if
so to commence [?] against
the oponents - You my friend
