OW Common Sense Receipts

Dough Nuts 1 cup sugar 4 do flour 1 do milk 2 eggs piece of butter size of half an egg half teaspoonful soda & cream of tartar

Breakfast Cake 2 cups sweet milk 1 egg 1 spoonful butter 1 teaspoon soda 2 cream of tartar 1 cup indian meal 2 oz flour 1/2 cup sugar & little soda

Niagara brown Bread 3 cups Indian meal 1 oz flour 3 do sweet milk 1 cup sour milk 1/2 cup molasses 2 teaspoonful soda Steam 3 hours

Cottage Pudding

1 pt sweet milk 1 cup sugar 1 egg 2 cups flour piece of butter size of an egg 2 teaspoonful cream of tartar 1 ditto soda. bake half an hour

Tapioca Pudding

3 tablespoonsful tapioca soaked overnight in 1 pt water bring 1 qt milk to a boil then turn in the tapioca add 1 cup sugar & the yolks of 3 eggs well beaten bring to a boil then turn it into a pudding dish flavor as you like beat the whites of the eggs to a stiff froth and pour over the top to be eaten cold

Molasses Gingerbread

1 coffee cup molasses some salt ditto warm water half cup lard or butter Mix the shortening with the molasses. 2 teaspoonsful soda Large spoon full of ginger or carraway seeds

Gold & Silver Cake

the whites of 3 Eggs. 1 cup sugar. half cup butter 2 do flour 1 teaspoonful cream of tartar half ditto soda dissolved in a half cup milk, flavor as you like

Gold Cake

the yolks of 3 eggs the rest same as Silver Cake
