Burnt Sugar Cake (Copied from Florence's collection)

1/2 c butter 1 1/2 c sugar 4 well beaten egg yolks 1 c water 3 teas burnt sugar 2 3/4 c flour

Mix as for any batter cake. Ice with boiled frosting flavored with burnt sugar. Vanilla may also be added to both cake and icing.

Merry-Go-Round Cake 8/8/34 Radio Recipe - Betty Crocker

Beat until light and lemon colored (with rotary beater) 4 eggs Beat in: 1/2 t salt 2 t flavoring (vanilla) 2 c. sugar Now mix and add 1 c. milk (boiling hot) 2 T butter Sieve together and add grad to egg mixture 2 c. flour (Gold Medal) 2 t bak. powder

Pour very quickly into two 9 in. floured layer pans. Bake immediately in mod. oven 350 for 25 or 30 min.

When cold, cover with Chocolate Butter Frosting

Melt over hot water: 1/4 c. butter 2 oz chocolate Blend in (2 or 3?) c. confec. sugar 6 T cream (and more if needed to be glossy + easy spreading consistency) Beat until smooth + leave over hot water 15 min.

Orange Raisin Sour Cream Cake Radio Kitchen 8/8/'34 -

Cream 1/2 c butter 1 c sugar Sieve together 2 c flour 1/2 tsp soda 1 tsp bak. powder 1/4 tsp salt Add alternately with with flour mixture 2 eggs - one at a time 1 c sour cream

Now add juice of 1/2 orange and the rind (put through the food chopper) 1 c seedless raisins (put through chopper)

Bake 25 min at 360 F.

Hungry Man's Cake (copied from Florence's old manuscripts)

Cream 2 c brown sugar 1/2 c shortening add 2 well beaten egg yolks 1/2 c sour milk alternately with 1/2 teas soda sifted with 2 cups flour 1/2 teas cinnamon 1 salt spoon each of cloves and nutmeg 1 teas. salt 1 teas bak. powder Bake in 3 Washington pie tins Put together with boiled frosting with chopped raisins and a few nut meats.
