Gum Drop Cake
½ cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
2½ cups flour
¼ tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
¾ cup milk
½ lb lemon & orange flavored gumdrops chopped fine
¾ lb seeded raisins
Cream shortening, add sugar & beaten
eggs. Sift flour, salt & baking powder
reserving about ½ cup flour to mix
with the chopped gumdrops & raisins.
Add vanilla to milk then add the
dry ingredients & milk alternately to the
first mixture. Stir in the flavored gumdrops
& raisins. Bake in a large greased cake
pan in a slow oven 300 F for 1 ½ hr.
This cake will keep moist for a long
time.
