Choc. Halfway Cookies
1 C. shortening | 1 t. vanilla |
½ C. gran. sugar | 2 C. sifted flour |
1½ C. brown sugar, firmly packed | ¼ t. salt |
1 t. baking p. [powder] | |
2 eggs separated | ¼ t. baking soda |
1 Tb. cold water | 1 7-oz bar semisweet choc. (48 squares) |
Cream shortnening until light. Add
gradually gran. sugar and ½ C. brown
sugar. Add slightly beaten egg
yolks, water and vanilla. Sift dry
ing. together and add to, combining
thoroly. Spread evenly in 2 greased
8x12x1 pans, smoothing out
dough with spatula. Sprinkle with
choc. cut along [.......?] Beat
egg whites stiff, then add gradually
remaining brown sugar. Spread
smoothly on top of choc piece. Bake
in 375 oven for 25 min. Allow to
stand until almost cool Carefully cut
into 2" sq. [squares] the remove. Leave cubes
exposed to air overnight before serving.
