To Pickle Walnuts

Take 100 Walnuts about the middle of summer when a pin will go through them, put as much water as you think will cover them, with salt enough to bear an egg - boil it and let it stand till cold then pour it on the nuts tie them close let no air come to them they must lie two weeks in the pickle - shifting it twice then take them out and put them in vinegar for a month, shift them twice then take a gallon of the best vinegar, add pepper & cloves of each an ounce mace and nutmegs of each half an ounce - ginger two ounces

Anna's Receipt for Frugal Cake

Take 3 cups Sugar 1 Cup Butter 1 Cup milk or cream and 4 eggs to which add 1/2 tea spoon saleratus and enough spice Add flour by degrees to make it of the consistency of pound cake and let it be well baked.

Very much like last receipt - 1 Cup Butter 2 - Sugar 3 - Flour 4 Eggs - 1 Teaspoon 1/2 Teaspoon full Saleratus Rosewater A little Cloves, Cinnamon Mace and Nutmeg improve it, but not necessary to receipt.

2 lbs and a 1/2 of flour 1 " " 1/4 of sugar 3/4 of a lb of butter 1/2 pint of water 1 teaspoon full of pearl ash Carraway Seed - Very stiff and kneaded a great deal.

To ½ pk peaches 2 lbs sugar ½ pk vinigar [vinegar], spice to taste pare them, and let the sugar vinegar, + spices, boil together a five minutes, then let the peaches boil long enough for the syrup to go through them or [?] [clear?]

Cherry Pie 3/4 cup Sugar 1 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch 1/4 teasp salt 3 cups canned cherries drained 1/3 cup chery Juice 1/4 teasp almond extract 1 tablespoon butter

Put Sugar, cornstarch, salt, cherries, add cherrie juice cook until thickener about 10 min cool add almond extract

Combination cake 5 egg yolks 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup milk 1 1/3 cup flour 1 teasp hot water 1 teasp cream tartar 1/2 teasp soda 1 teasp vanilla pinch salt Beat yolks till light addsugar & milk add soda in water. Sift flour, cream tartar salt. Beat well
