Office Supt of Indian Affairs San Francisco Cal Dec 19th 1855.

Hon G.W. Maypenny Commr of Indian Affairs Washington DC

Sir

In reply to yours of the 2nd ultimo, enclosing severally copies of letters of Genl Wool - one addressed to Col Cooper Adj Genl, and the other to myself, in reference to Indians on the Miliary reserve at Fort Jones:

I have the honor to state that I am somewhat at a loss to know, why these documents were referred to the Department at Washington, becaue on the 21st of Sept 1855 I addressed to the Genl a letter - a copy of which is enclosed herewith - agreeing at once to receive the Indians alluded to. I have been prepared and willing to receive, at all times, Indians under such circumstances.

Very Respectfully, Thos J Henley Supt Ind Affs
