Treasury Department Second Auditor's Office 21 Nov 1861
Sir,
It appears by the list of names of Superintd & Agents of Indian Dept recd from you on the 1st inst, that Vincent E. Geiger has ceased to be agent in California — would it not be proper to settle his a/c up to the time of his going out of office — giving him credit for salary as far as he is entitled — you are [illegible] he has rendered no a/cs for 1 & 2d qrs 1859, at least they have not been recd here, although those of 3rd & 4th qrs 1859 were recd from your office in March last — if you think it advisable to settle his a/c as indicated — please say to include what date shall he be allowed his salary — I suppose he should receive credit for salary for 1 & 2d qrs 1859 notwithstanding his failure to render a/c for those quarters — if you think otherwise please so state —
Very Respectfully Your Ob Serv. E. B. Finch Second Auditor
