Sir, Please see accompanying letter of the 9th inst. from the Qr. M. Genl’s office in reference to the claim of Messrs McLellan & Co. from which it appears said claim was submitted to the Hon. Secy of the Intr. by the Qr. M. Genl. on the 15th Jany. 1859, and that no reply has been made, and that nothing can be done until answer is made &c. As this claim has been pending for some time, and the parties reasonably anxious to have the matter settled, your attention as soon as practicable is respectfully solicited.

Sir. Your two letters dated September 27th/61, and the 5th inst enquiring about the claim of Messrs McLellan & Co have been received.
On the 16th April 1858 it was submitted by the Qr Master General to the Sec of War, and on the 15th January 1859, the latter transmitted to the Sec of the Interior copies of the accounts, together with the correspondence on the subject and requested him to inform him if they could be properly defrayed by the Dep't of the Interior, to which communication no reply has been received as far as this office is advised.
On the original papers, which are on file in this office, no action can be taken by this Dep't until an answer to the letter of the Sec of War is rec'd from the Sec of the Interior.
