Friend Latham
Mr Hanson the newly appointed Supt Agent for the Northern District has recommended the abendining [abandoning] of the Nome Lackee Indian Reservation, and is taking all the Inds stock and property to Nome cult farm. I understand that he wishes the reserve to be sold in a body and if so sold I presume he or some of his stock jobbers will get it. I hope you will see that it is sold in small parcels from 40 to 320 acres thereby giving a chance to those that will become actual settlers, if it is sold in small parcels at auction it will bring

A much larger sum and give homes to 30 or 40 good substantial men we are talking of gitting up a petition to that effect as every man in the county is anxious that it shall be disposed of so as to make homes for those that want them We all look to you to see that the disposal of it will be so arranged that no speculating Co shall have a chance to appropriate it to their special benefit. Our state is justly excited at the present time owing to the Eastern news and our state Elections it is almost impossible to say how it will go politically the secessionists will not poll over 8 or 10 thousand votes, but between Conness & Stanford it will be closer (write me)
Yours truly E. A. Stevenson

Respectfully referred to the Comr of Indian Affairs I am satisfied that Mr Stevensons recommendation is a good one, and should by all means be adopted to secure the best price for the Government & prevent fraud.
Very Respectfully Milton S. Latham
