fortunately I had none, I was also deceived by Milton S Latham
on his return, or I might possibly have beet Hanson up, I happened
to be in the city about the middle of April to draw the money sent
me, Mr Latham had just arrived, and I had a conversation with
him in regard to my resignation and successor. I had prior to Mr
Lathams leaving Washington sent him my resignation to be tendered
by him to the President, which he informed me he had done
(and that it was accepted, but only to take effect on the 30th
day of June, he was wrongly informed about the matter, or else
he willfully deceived me) you will pleas comply with my request
at your earliest convenience", the above is a copy, with the exception
of the first paragraph and first sentence of my letter to you dated
24th Augst, and which remains unanswered by you, no money has
yet arrived but is expected by every mail Truly
