Sir Herewith I return your report of the 9th ultimo and accompanying papers relative to establishing an Indian Reservation in the Smith River Valley California.
I have indorsed [endorsed] upon your report an order for the withdrawal from date for the present, of the lands indicated by the diagram as in townships seventeen, eighteen, and nineteen, lying upon the Pacific Ocean in Del Monte Co[unty] California.
Should Congress make provision for extinguishing all private claims within the boundaries indicated, the Reservation for Indian purposes will be submitted to the President for a formal order setting apart the land for that use.

You will transmit the order of withdrawal, the diagrams, and such other documents or information as is necessary to the Commissioner of the General Land Office that the Register and Receiver of the district may receive the proper instructions.
