State of California May 12 1862

Hon. Wm P Dole Comr Indian Affairs

Dear Sir We the undersigned citizens of the State aforesaid, creditors of the Fresno Indian Agency, for supplies furnished and services rendered, Sub Indn Agent M B Lewis, under the Superintendence of Col Thos J Henly, during the fiscal year commencing the first of July 1858 and ending the 30th day of June 1859, inclusive. A portion of which amounts expended, is yet due the undersigned, Have, and do, by these presence, make known to the Indian Department, at Washington, D.C. our most ardent and earnest wishes, as to the remittence and settlement of the balance due as aforesaid.

To Wit That Wm P Dole, Comr of Indian Affairs at Washington, or any other officer authorized to disburse moneys for the settlement of claims against the Indian Department. Remit to the superintendence of John P H Wentworth, Superintending Agent of S. D. of California, or his successor in office, the amt. found due us respectively, for supplies furnished and services rendered, the above mentioned

period of time, to be by him, said superintending Agent, paid to the respective creditors or rightful owners thereof, unless for the more convenient and promt settlement, of the claims it should be the pleasure of the Department to instruct Supt Wentworth, or his successor in office, to place the amount remitted in the U S Treasury at San Francisco, to the credit of the late Sub Indn Agent M B Lewis to be by him respectively paid to the original creditors, or rightful owners as the case may be. Either of the foregoing suggestions as to the settlement of the claims, will give general satisfaction, to the creditors. The latter however will be more convenient to them

It is confidentially hoped that it will on the receipt of this, be the pleasure of the Department, at an early day, to remit the funds thus sought, and the undersigned as in duly bound, will remain ever grateful, we have the hon to subscribe our names
