OFFICE INDIAN AFFAIRS, NORTHERN DISTRICT, CALIFORNIA. San Francisco, July 27th 1863
Hon. Wm P. Dole Commissioner &c
Sir, I have the honor to transmit herewith my Quarterly Returns, including Return of Property, Abstract of Disbursements, Acct Current, Muster Roll, and Accompanying Vouchers, Sub Vouchers, and Certificates of Issue; for the 2d Quarter of 1863; all in duplicate
You will observe that the Property List has been classified and somewhat abridged. Many articles in last Return were in two or three different places, and sometimes the same thing with as many different names. These errors have been corrected to some extent. I hope to make further improvement in the next Returns. The following are some of the articles that have been dropped and accounted for under different names — Vitrol, acc't'd for as Blue Stone; Cream Tartar, do Bit. Tart. Potassa; Tartar Emetic, as Tartrate of Antimony; Burlaps, as Sacking; Double trees, & Leading Bars, as Whiffletrees, &c. etc.
Very Respectfully Your Obt. Svt. Geo M Hanson Suptg Agt &c
